Akarana Marine Centre is much more than a venue on the waterfront, it’s a major community hub supporting marine sport, youth development, education and public events right here in Ōrākei. Akarana describes itself as an inclusive marine sports hub for competitive, recreational and educational activity, with facilities designed for the wider community as well as clubs and event users.

The centre is also home to community-focused youth initiatives, including the New Navigators Programme, which supports young people from low-decile schools to get involved in water sports, build confidence and explore future pathways. Akarana’s broader outreach work is centred on creating “safe pathways to the sea for all,” helping more Auckland children access marine-based learning and experiences.
As many locals will know, Akarana has also been generous in supporting community initiatives and providing venue support, particularly for youth-focused activity. We’re pleased to highlight the range of programmes, events and opportunities available through this important local facility.
