About Us

The OCA is a voluntary, resident-led organisation formed by people who care deeply about the place they live.

We represent the Ōrākei suburb and we exist for one simple reason: to make sure the perspectives of residents are heard, respected and understood.

Our role is to sit firmly within the community, listening, connecting, and advocating where it matters. Sometimes that means raising concerns. Sometimes it means asking better questions. Often it means helping residents understand what’s proposed, what’s changing, and how they can have their say.

At our core, we are about stewardship - of place, of character, and of community wellbeing - now and into the future.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help Ōrākei remain a place people are proud to live in - today and tomorrow.

That means standing up for thoughtful planning rather than short-term fixes. It means supporting neighbourhoods that respect heritage and character while accommodating change. It means pushing for transport choices that reduce congestion and improve everyday movement. It means protecting parks, reserves, established trees and waterways, and ensuring community facilities evolve with the people who use them.

Community Life and Participation

Communities don’t thrive by accident.
They thrive when people show up, to listen, to ask questions, and to contribute.

The Ōrākei Community Association creates space for those conversations to happen. Through forums, meetings, updates and shared information, we help residents stay connected to what’s happening locally and to each other.

You don’t need to be an expert.
You don’t need to agree with everyone.
You just need to care about where you live.

Get Involved

There is no single way to be involved with the Ōrākei Community Association. Some people attend meetings.
Some contribute ideas or skills.
Some simply stay informed and lend their support.

All of it matters.

Whether you have time to volunteer, a perspective you want to share, or simply an interest in staying connected to what’s happening in Ōrākei, you are welcome here.

Community is not something we observe, it’s something we participate in.

Your Commitee

The Ōrākei Community Association Committee is a voluntary, resident-led group committed to representing the voices of people who live here.

Independent of council, politics, and commercial interests, we listen, connect, and advocate for thoughtful decisions that protect Ōrākei’s character and community wellbeing, now and into the future.
